Strengthening nonprofit boards In Marin

The Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership strengthens nonprofit boards of directors through its BoardMatch Marin program.  BoardMatch Marin offers an array of board services, including training & workshops, board coaching consultations, and an online board matching program.  This program is available to both candidates interested in serving on a board and to nonprofit boards.   Since its February 2003 inception, BoardMatch Marin has trained 98 individuals, matched 39 participants to local nonprofits, and registered 25 agencies with the program.

Our Services

Workshops

• Board 101 - This workshop covers the fundamentals of successful nonprofit board membership. It is designed for volunteers who are interested in joining a board for the first time and for board members wishing to increase their skills and knowledge of nonprofit governance. Participants in Board 101 will gain practical knowledge about key aspects of effective board membership, including governance, legal and financial duties. Additional topics include overview of why nonprofits are governed by boards of directors, staff versus board roles, and what to ask before joining a board.
  
• Board 201 - This workshop is designed for board members who are interested in increasing their skills and knowledge of nonprofit governance and their personal effectiveness as leadership volunteers. Participants will review the roles and responsibilities of the board as a governing body and of individual board members, and will gain insight into the key differences between board and staff functions. Additional topics include fundraising, tips for effective meetings, and strategic planning. Board members will come away with practical tips on how to more effectively serve their agencies and with examples of forms and formats to adapt to their own board’s needs.
  

Board Coaching & Consulting - One on one personal consultation for board leaders to assist in strengthening skills such as fundraising, meeting facilitation, and recruitment.  One free hour of consulting for new and renewing Center members.

Governance Tune-Up - A customized workshop presented to an entire board at a location of its choosing.  Areas covered include: Board Roles & Responsiblities, Ethics & Fiduciary Responsibility, Risk Management, Executive Director Evaluation, and Transition Planning.

Board Retreat Planning & Facilitation - Support and assistance in planning for and conducting a productive and enjoyable board retreat.

Online Board Matching Services - Nonprofit agencies can post their board position openings online.  Interested candidates can view board opportunities and directly contact nonprofit agencies.   View Current Board Openings>
