TO CELEBRATES MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY ON JANUARY 21, ‘08
San Rafael, CA - The Center for Volunteer and
Nonprofit Leadership (Center) invites volunteers of all ages
to participate in the “Intergenerational Peace Garden”,
a Marin City community beautification service project scheduled
for Martin Luther King Holiday, Monday, January 21st, 2008,
from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon.
The project will be lead by Marin Conservation Corps. This local
initiative is connected with a national effort to make the holiday
“A Day On, Not a Day Off”, when thousands across
the country will honor King’s legacy of tolerance, peace,
and equality by meeting community needs.
The 10th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration
marks the year of the 40th memorial anniversary of Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. by celebrating his vision for a beloved community
and an empowered, nonviolent world. The Grassroots Leadership
Network is hosting the event in collaboration with other community-based
organizations including Marin City Network, Marin Conservations
Corps, Marin City Ministerial Alliance, Tamalpais High School,
and Center for Volunteer and the Center.
Youth are called to work alongside with seniors in different
projects to make the garden a reality. The group will meet at
the Marguerita Johnson Senior Center, 640 Drake Ave. The morning
will be followed by a commemoration luncheon featuring raffle
prizes for volunteers, performances from local artists, and
youth awards.
The volunteer sign-up is being coordinated by the Center. People
of all ages are encouraged to sign up. For more information
